  1. Publicity and Turnout:  the single most important way to get people to come is by asking them in person.  Think about it:  if you are asked in person to do something by someone you know aren't you much more likely to do it?  The next best is a personal phone call from you to someone you know.  But this event is about information that is of direct importance to anyone who lives in your town, so you are inviting them based on their self-interest.  It is a fine thing to do.  In addition, the following things can help

    1. Who are the key people in your city or town that you would want to attend?  List on separate page.  Think about elected and appointed officials:  the mayor or first selecman, the legislative body for your city or town, those with responsibility for schools, planning, economic development, the environments, roads, sewers, water, etc.  If you can ask them in person that is best.  If not, a personal letter followed by a phone call is recommended.

    1. Newspapers:  Can you get a listing in the community calendar?  A story about your event?  A paid ad in the local weekly paper listing the names of the people on the planning committee?

    1. Cable Access station:  Can you get a listing in the community calendar?  Can you get someone to videotape your event and broadcast it live and/or later?

    1. Faith communities:  Can you get the pastor to announce the event?  Designate a contact person in each who will personally ask people to come? Put something in the newsletter or weekly bulletin?

    1. Leafleting:  Can you get people to leaflet at the supermarket or school sports event on the weekend before (a boy scout or girl scout troop? A church youth group?  Your own committee? )

    1. Schools:  Can you get the head of the PTA to spread the word to parents?
