Coordinate the CenterEdge Project, a statewide public education project on the impact of sprawl on cities, first-ring suburbs and rural areas

Responsible for master proposal development and grant writing for all agency programs

Staff 3 grant programs awarding an average of 55 grants totaling a third of a million dollars per year

Supervise a staff of five professionals and 5 programs serving a three-county area

Initiated establishment of and obtained first funding for unprecedented six-state project among all Catholic dioceses, Catholic Charities, Catholic Conferences, three            community organizing networks, the Leadership Conference of Women Religious                         Region I, and the College of the Holy Cross to enable collaboration during early stages         of federal welfare reform

Advocate

Responsible for public policy analysis, coalition development, research, bill writing, position paper development, and lead lobbying

Obtained passage of first-in-the-nation state legislation and millions of dollars in the     areas of housing, and elderly nutrition

Played a lead role in establishment and/or funding of the Connecticut Housing        Coalition, the Connecticut Aids Residence Coalition, and the Connecticut Network to Abolish the Death Penalty

 

1974–1980    Citizens for Humanizing Criminal Justice               New Haven, CT

Coordinator

Created and directed a number of programs including a statewide prison family       program, a bail monitoring project, and a court information desk

Provided technical assistance and grant writing to establish Community Mediation, Inc.

Participated in development of a national program on community-empowering       responses to problems of crime and injustice

Consultation

Provided pro-bono consultation to establish and obtain funds for the Neighborhood Schools Collaborative Process, involving ten schools in Fair Haven and Fair Haven Heights, New Haven.  Raised funds for the Children’s Cooperative Opera Project.

Board Memberships

Serve on the Advisory Board of the Institute for Municipal and Regional Policy, Central CT State University and on the Board of 1000 Friends of Connecticut.

Have received awards from Albertus Magnus College, NASW, the American Friends Service Committee, Connecticut Housing Coalition, Connecticut Coalition to End Homelessness, Community Mediation, Downtown Cooperative Ministry (now Interfaith Cooperative Ministry), etc.

Other Skills

Have basic computer and camcorder mastery.  Manage agency website.  Have survey research experience gained in paid employment with a major community mental health survey and as an enumerator with the U.S. Census.
